Three explosive-laden vehicles enter Karachi to hit Ashura procession

shiitenews car-bombLaw-enforcement agencies are trying to track down terrorists who have reportedly entered the city with three explosive-packed vehicles.

Sounding the alarm, secret agencies have directed the LEAs to intercept these three explosive-laden vehicles, a double-cabin pickup bearing registration number HB-416, a Toyota XLI and a Suzuki Alto. 

Informed sources said that police officials were put on alert soon after a message about the vehicles carrying explosive material was ran on police wireless. They added that these terrorists were looking to stoke violence during the last three days of Ashra by targeting Muharram processions and majalis.

Nevertheless, Sindh Home Minster Manzoor Wassan, on Saturday, confirmed threats for 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram by certain banned outfits. He declared the next 72 hours as crucial. 

Wassan, who visited and reviewed security arrangements at Numaish Chowrangi, said that the main Muharram procession would start from Numaish and conclude at Imambargah Husainian Iranian in Kharadar. He added that the procession would pass through some 300 streets and roads that would remain close for traffic.

The minister said that several thousands of policemen and Sindh Rangers officials along with 90 police mobiles, 15 fire tenders, nine APCs and 45 ambulances would provide security cover to the procession. 

He said that security personnel would be deployed at roofs of major buildings, while 30 walk-through gates would be installed to keep a vigilant eye on suspects. 

He further said that aerial surveillance would also be carried out. 

About the compensation announced for the heirs of victims of terrorism during 2009 and 2010, he said that legal heirs of 19 victims would get Rs0.5 million each and 115 injured would be given Rs0.1 million by Monday.

Meanwhile, emergency has been declared at all public hospitals. The LEAs have been put on high alert. 

Also, a flag march of security officials was taken out across the city under the supervision of the City Administration to build up confidence of the people.

According to Sindh Police chief Mushtaq Shah, some 155 Muharram processions and 360 Majalis-e-Azza have been scheduled across the city for the last two days of Ashra.
