US Citizens in Iraq Urged to Leave Immediately as Level 4 Travel Alert Issued

Shiite News: The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and the U.S. Consulate in Erbil have issued an emergency travel advisory for American citizens. In the emergency alert, U.S. citizens were strongly urged to leave the area immediately in view of the current situation.

According to the U.S. State Department’s travel advisory classification system, the warning has been placed at the highest security level, Level 4, which means “Do Not Travel.” Under this level, U.S. citizens are advised to completely avoid traveling to affected areas because of serious and potentially life-threatening risks.

The emergency advisory further stated that U.S. citizens who are currently in the affected areas should depart immediately, provided that safe and operational routes out of the country are available. The emergency warning was issued amid concerns over potentially serious security threats in the region.
