Ayatullah Janati: Isolate sedition leaders

aytaullah_jannatiSenior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati has condemned the ‘leaders of the sedition movement’ for attempting to deceive public opinion, calling their isolation.“What the judiciary can do is to cut off the leaders of the sedition movement from the outside world and put them under house arrest,” Ayatollah Jannati proposed on Friday, Shiite News reported.

Tehran’s interim Friday Prayers leader also called on judicial authorities to put movement restrictions on the figures, deny them access to the telephone and the internet, so they would not be able to contact people and transfer messages.

The cleric referred to Iran’s prosperity and its scientific and technological achievements in recent years and slammed the sedition leaders’ use of the Egyptian Revolution as a pretext for instigating anti-government demonstrations.

“Everyone knows that this act of the seditionists is dishonest, hypocritical and deceitful,” he stated.

“While people voiced their support for the Egyptians on 22 Bahman (February 11), you try to take a few into streets, make a fuss and get some people killed,” Ayatollah Jannati said, addressing the leaders of the sedition movement.

The cleric was referring to the gatherings three days after the 32nd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, held despite the Interior Ministry’s refusal to issue a permit for the rallies.

In Iran ‘sedition movement’ is used in reference to the unrest following the 2009 presidential elections where despite the government’s assurances of the vote’s transparency, rioting continued in the country, especially in the capital, Tehran.

Defeated presidential candidates Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi are largely referred to as the leaders of the sedition movement
