According to reports, the case was registered under the Pakistan Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960 (MPO 16). The organizer has been accused of arranging and hosting a mourning gathering at his home.
Participants and mourners have criticized the action, saying that authorities previously objected to mourning processions and religious gatherings in public spaces, often advising people to conduct such activities within designated places of worship. They argue that if cases are now being registered for holding Majlis gatherings inside private homes, it raises serious concerns regarding religious freedom and the rights of the Shia community.
Critics have described the move as evidence of discrimination against Shia Muslims and an infringement on the sanctity of religious mourning practices.
