Measures for national security will be taken without becoming a part of arms race: National Command Authority
Shiite News: The meeting of National Command Authority chaired by the Prime Minister took place on Wednesday during which concerns were expressed over the increase of conventional and strategic weapons in the region and it was decided that measures for national security will be taken without becoming a part of the arms race.
The meeting which took place at GHQ was presided over by the PM and Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee, Chiefs of all three services and federal ministers participated in the meeting. Country’s internal and external security was also discussed in the meeting. The authority took note of the growing weapons development in the region.
The National Command Authority stated that nuclear deterrence is a factor of stability in South Asia and expressed its resolve to maintain full spectrum deterrence, in line with the policy of credible minimum deterrence. Acknowledging the services and professionalism displayed by the scientists and engineers, NCA congratulated them for the recent successful tests of various ballistic and cruise missile systems.
The NCA also comprehensively reviewed the safety and security mechanism of Pakistan’s nuclear program and expressed satisfaction on the measures in-place to ensure highly effective security of nuclear assets.
It was re-affirmed that, as a responsible nuclear state, Pakistan would continue to contribute meaningfully towards the global efforts to improve nuclear security and nuclear non-proliferation measures.
