Hezbollah and Amal Are in Their Strongest Position, Says Lebanese MP

Shiite News: Lebanese parliamentarian and head of the Loyalty to the Resistance parliamentary bloc, Mohammad Raad, said that any discussion about restricting weapons to the state should be conditional on the complete withdrawal of the Israeli government from occupied Lebanese territories, an end to hostilities, and the deployment of the Lebanese Army south of the Litani River.

Raad said that Hezbollah and the Amal Movement are currently in their strongest position, adding that the Islamic Resistance had achieved what he described as a significant accomplishment in confronting aggression under highly sensitive and complex circumstances. These remarks were reported in an interview with the Lebanese website Al-Modon.

Raad said Hezbollah was prepared to engage in indirect negotiations with Israel over any agreement that guarantees withdrawal and an end to hostilities without granting concessions to Israel. He also called on Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to uphold the Constitution and the National Reconciliation Document.

Regarding foreign policy, Raad stressed the importance of strengthening relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He also discussed the issue of Ali al-Taher Ridge, saying that the lessons from the fighting there were important for confronting the adversary.

Raad said that expectations by Israel and its allies that Hezbollah would surrender its weapons or be defeated had failed. He reiterated that discussions on restricting weapons to the state and the role of the resistance within a comprehensive national defense strategy would have a more favorable environment once an Israeli withdrawal is guaranteed and the Lebanese Army is deployed south of the Litani River in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
