Lyari gangsters Abu Sufyan and Haris arrested for attack on Deobandi cleric, according to Sindh police’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

The CTD Karachi’s chief, DIG Omer Shahid Hamid and other officials shared details with the media, while addressing a press conference.

Reportedly, area residents had caught an Muddasir Jawed on October 31, 2020 and handed him to police.

They told the police he had attacked Mufti Abdullah in the Jamshed Quarters police remit.

However, his abettor managed to flee the scene.

Now the CTD police identified the cleric as Mufti Ameen alias Abdullah.

DIG Omer said that during the initial interrogation, Jawed had revealed the names of his remaining associates, including Farhan, who had accompanied him during the attack.

Furthermore, the DIG said that investigations and intelligence and technical apparatus found involvement of the same gang in recent target killings.

They also found them involved in extortion and other crimes, while the sane gangsters of Lyari gang-war also made an attempt on Mufti Ameen alias Mufti Abdullah.

Higher authorities assigned the task to nab the culprits to the CTD Transnational Terrorists Intelligence Group (TTIG) chief Raja Umer Khattab.

Umer Khattab used his intelligence apparatus and carried out a raid in the Kharadar area, where his team arrested Haris alias Farhan alias Langra alias Gul Plaza Wala and his companion, Abu Sufiyan.

The CTD also seized two pistols, a motorcycle and several bullets.

According to DIG Omer Hamid, the gang was associated with the gang war’s notorious criminal, Zahid alias Shooter.

India RAW via UAE

He said the Shooter linked with the Indian intelligence agency RAW and residing in the UAE.

Moreover, he said, another associate, Haji was also operating from Karachi. He used to provide funds to gangsters besides name of targets which the Indian RAW provided to them.

The CTD officials said Indian RAW wanted to create situation of uncertainty in Karachi through such targeted attacks.

DIG Hamid said Haris alias Farhan was operating the gang, while receiving directives from Zahid alias Shooter and Haji.

The gangsters were operating from Garden, Lyari, Soldier Bazaar, Patel Para, Old Golimar and Pak Colony.

Arrested gangsters admitted they had attacked Dr Tabrez in June 2020 that left him injured. They said that they also attacked gangsters of their rival Arshad Pappu group in Pak Colony in July 2020, killing and injuring some gangsters.

Gangsters also resorted to firing at a plot in Kharadar after the owner refused to pay the extortion amount, they had demanded. The incident was reported in July this year.

Moreover, they also allegedly filmed a building situated on Tariq Road and sent the video to Zahid alias Shooter for an extortion demand.
