Saudi Cleric Urges Turkey to Target Syrian Soldiers

An extremist Saudi cleric called on Turkey to target Syrian army during its assaults on its southern neighbor.

Sheikh Abdullah Muhaysni, told a TV reporter this week that Turkey must intervene in Syria to defeat the Syrian Arab Army and government.

“How long will Turkey and its people allow the regime’s oppression to continue?” he said in the interview.

Muhaysini is known for his Wahhabi extremism and his support for terrorist groups. Even the US Treasury recently sanctioned him as an active supporter of terrorism.

The cleric claimed it is Turkey’s Islamic duty to defeat the Syrian government, despite his past promises of defeating the Syrian Arab Army with rebels.

“Why doesn’t Turkey use its powerful army against the Syrian regime; it is their duty,” Muhaysni added.

Syria has been dealing with a foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura have put the death toll from the conflict at more than 300,000 and 400,000, respectively. This is while the UN has stopped its official casualty count in the Arab country, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
