Arrests of Shia Scholars in Kuwait Are Blatant Injustice: Allama Shafqat Hussain Shirazi

Shiite News: Head of Majlis Ulema-e-Imamia Pakistan Allama Dr. Syed Shafqat Hussain Shirazi has strongly condemned the arrests of Shia parliamentarians, religious scholars, preachers, writers, and social personalities in Kuwait and the discriminatory and oppressive measures ongoing against them on sectarian grounds.

In his statement, while strongly condemning the unfair and vindictive judicial rulings against Hawza Ilmiyya teacher at the advanced level Ayatollah Sheikh Hussain Ma’touq and other academic, political, and social personalities, he said that targeting any citizen on the basis of affiliation with the school of Ahlul Bayt (AS) is blatant injustice, a negation of civic equality, and a violation of the recognized principles of religious freedom.

Allama Shafqat Hussain Shirazi said that Kuwait’s Shia citizens are an important part of the country’s history, society, and national life; the sacrifices of Kuwaiti Shias for the defense and liberation of Kuwait during the Saddamite aggression and their loyalty to the homeland are unforgettable, and today targeting this same community on the basis of its religious identity is contrary to the requirements of justice and national unity.

He demanded from the Kuwaiti authorities that the arrested persons be released immediately and all measures based on sectarian discrimination be ended, while appealing to Muslim scholars, religious institutions, human rights organizations, and governments to raise their voice against this injustice, because support for the oppressed is not bound by any border or sect.
