Saudi Attack on Mayun Lighthouse Is a Violation of International Law: Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Shiite News: Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has termed Al Saud’s attack on the historic lighthouse of Mayun Island, located in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, it was said that the Saudi regime is attempting to expand the scope of war to Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea and to turn these important maritime passages into a battlefield. The statement clarified that shipping in Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea is continuing safely and that the threat to its security comes not from Yemen but from the actions of the Saudi regime.

Earlier, Yemen’s Ministry of Interior had also strongly condemned this attack, terming it open aggression against an important civilian installation that poses a threat to maritime shipping. The Ministry of Interior also warned of the dangers of giving a military character to Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea.

A Yemeni military source had reported on Friday night that the lighthouse of Mayun Island was targeted by Saudi aggression.
