Lebanon: More than 400 Syrian Refugees Leave Arsal to Homeland

Some 448 refugees began to leave the Lebanese border into Syria on Saturday, the National News Agency reported.

Saturday’s move is the second phase of the Syrian refugees’ repatriation. It took place at the meeting point of Wadi Hmayed crossing.

The Lebanese Army, in coordination with the General Security, are overseeing the operation.

Media reports say that more than 1 million Syrian refugees are registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese government estimates the true number of Syrians in the country to be 1.5 million.

Political parties in Lebanon have, on many occasions, voiced their concerns about the large number of refugees in the country, saying that their prolonged stay represents an economic and social burden.
