Afghan ambassador meets Army Chief to discuss regional security
After a visit of the US envoy and meeting with the COAS, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan Dr Omar Zakhilwal called on Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ Rawalpindi and exchanged ideas on matters of mutual interest and regional security.
The current peace and security situation in Afghanistan was also brought under discussion during the meeting, the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement.
Ambassador Dr Zakhilwal lauded the role of COAS General Bajwa in improvement of bilateral ties between the two countries, the statement added.
US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Ambassador Alice Wells arrived in Pakistan on Monday and called on Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday.
During the meeting, both reaffirmed the commitment towards the common goal of peace and stability in the region, according to the army’s media wing.
Wells commended the sacrifices and resilience of the people and the armed forces of Pakistan, and appreciated the role Pakistan Army has played in battling the scourge of terrorism, the statement said further.
Foreign Office spokesman Dr Faisal termed that visit successful, saying the US hailed Pakistan’s border management system on the Afghan border.
