Berlin confab vows solidarity with Bahrain freedom struggle

An international conference on Bahrain here Saturday pledged solidarity with the freedom struggle of the Bahraini people amid the ongoing Saudi occupation of the small Arab country. Opening the conference at the Al-Ershad Islamic Community Center in Berlin’s Neukoelln district, a spokesman for the Shia communities in Germany, Heiko Hassan Hoffman said the Bahraini king had ‘completely lost his legitimacy’ among Bahrainis for his brutal crackdown of the peaceful popular protest

He added the majority of Bahrainis reject the king and are defending themselves against the Saudi occupation.

Hoffmann urged the German government to support the freedom campaign of the Bahraini people.Meanwhile, the head of Hamburg’s Islamic Center Ayatollah Reza Ramezani expressed his condolences with the families of the Bahraini martyrs, saying this was also a ‘great tragedy’ for the Muslim Ummah.

In an emotional plea, Ramezani called on the international community to pay greater attention to the plight of the Bahraini nation amid the continued repression in that

country.The highlight of the conference featured the testimony of a female Bahraini underground fighter, Karima Ebrahim who burst into tears when she told the audience about the ongoing suffering of her nation.She pointed out that the Bahraini revolution on February 14 was only one of many other revolutions in that country which were suppressed by the Bahraini regime.Ebrahim urged the West, notably the European Union, to take a ‘strong stance’ on the repression in Bahrain.She stressed the ruling Al-Khalifa family should be tried for its crimes against the Bahraini people.The Bahraini freedom activist lambasted the Saudi occupation of Bahrain, saying they

were ‘the biggest devil.’She urged the world not to be indifferent to the deadly repression in her country.Ebrahim announced a new round of people protests for June 1 in Bahrain.The conference included also a photo exhibition, depicting the martyrs of the Bahraini evolution and scenes of the brutal clampdown by the Manama regime.

A resolution in support of Bahrain’s revolutionaries was passed at the end of the meeting, calling on the German government to be on the side of the Bahraini people.

It also urged Berlin to adopt a ‘clear position on the war crimes (in Bahrain) and the

occupation of Bahrain by foreign (Saudi…) powers.’
