Iranians mark Arba’een pays homage to Karbala Martyrs
Along with millions of Muslims across the globe, Iranians have marked Arba’een, one of the most revered religious occasions on the Islamic calendar.
The event on Tuesday commemorated the culmination of a 40-day mourning period after the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson and the third Shia Imam.
As telecast by IRIB channels, black-clad mourners across Iran honored the event by taking part in ceremonies where elegies were recited in memory of the Karbala Martyrs.
The holy cities of Mashhad and Qom witnessed the largest such gatherings of the faithful who converged on the mausoleums of Imam Reza (AS) and his sister, Hazrat Ma’suma (SA) respectively to offer condolences on the tragedy that befall the Prophet’s household.
In other cities of Iran, large mourning processions took to the streets to commemorate the event.
In some cities, funeral processions were held on this day for the recently retrieved body of martyrs of the 8 year imposed was (1980-88).
Thousands of students from all over the country today assembled at Hosseinye Imam Khomeini in Tehran in the presence of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatullah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to commemorate the Arba’een with elegies and discourses.
