Religion being used by takfiris in Elections as ECP words doesn’t match with action

17 April, 2013 13:11

ecpIn theory, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) strictly prohibited the use of clan relations, ethnicity and religion for begging votes and warned of a 3-year jail term for any political candidate found using such means but in practice takfiri terrorists Muttahida Deeni Mahaz has been allowed to contest elections.

The ECP has claimed that to eliminate the possibility of emotional blackmailing, the ECP has provided this warning to all contesting parties.
Earlier on Sunday, the ECP reminded political groupings and their candidates that they would strictly enforce the code of conduct in place for the 2013 general elections. It called upon all contestants to refrain from eliciting votes “on the basis of religion, sect, caste or ethnicity”, citing a specific provision in the 46-clause code of conduct.
Clause 19 says “political parties, contesting candidates and their supporters shall not propagate against the participation of any person in the elections on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion or caste”.
Ahmed Ludhianvi, chief of outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba who has renamed his party as Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jamaat, is also head of outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. His terrorist group is now part of Muttahida Deeni Mahaz. The returning officers and the ECP have cleared Ludhianvi, his group’s other terrorists such as Aurangzeb Farooqi, etc. and they are contesting elections.
The citizens of Pakistan have urged the Election Commission, Judiciary and all other relevant institutions to jail the terrorists instead of allowing them to participate in the elections.
The ECP’s policy has cast doubts on the credibility of electoral process and it has paved way to send the outlawed outfits’ gangsters to the legislatures on gunpoint and emotional blackmailing.
