“Genocide of Palestinians Is a Global Moral Crisis,” Says Dr. Hamid Shahriari

Shiite News: Scholars from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia and several other countries participated in the second International Conference of Religious Leaders held in St. Petersburg, Russia. On the occasion, Dr. Hamid Shahriari, Secretary-General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, and Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali delivered addresses on major global issues and the escalating situation in Palestine.

In his address, Dr. Hamid Shahriari said that human dignity and justice are fundamental values of the Islamic system. He described the violation of Palestinians’ rights as a clear example of a global moral crisis, stating that the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza and Lebanon constitute genocide. He said that by portraying the killing of children and women as legitimate warfare, the Israeli government is exposing what he described as the hypocrisy and double standards of the international system that claims to uphold human rights.

Iranian Ambassador Dr. Kazem Jalali stressed the need to stand against oppression and injustice, which he described as being most prominently represented by the United States in the present era. He warned that Zionism is using modern means to target the traditions and ethical values of divine religions.

Russian officials and religious figures at the conference also emphasized the preservation of religious values in the face of Western and material influences, while describing support for oppressed Palestinians as a shared responsibility of the international community.
