Support for the Oppressed in Gaza: Martyr Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s Humanitarian Position

Shiite News: In recent years, the alleged genocide and atrocities committed by the Israeli government in Gaza have placed Arab and Muslim governments before a historic test. While, according to critics, many Arab rulers turned away from the suffering of the people of Gaza and maintained silence, the so-called “Axis of Resistance” presented examples of support for the oppressed. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the late leader of Hezbollah in Lebanon, remained a prominent supporter of the Palestinian people and continued to advocate for their cause after the October 7, 2023, attacks, including through Hezbollah’s regional posture.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s position on Palestine was not merely incidental or emotional; it was presented as being rooted in humanitarian, ethical and religious principles. He described the killing of civilians, forced displacement and siege carried out by Israel as grave crimes against humanity. As a prominent religious leader, he maintained that Islam calls upon people to stand against oppression and support the oppressed, regardless of the sacrifices required in pursuit of that principle.

Alongside these humanitarian and religious considerations, Nasrallah’s political position was also clear: he argued that denying the Palestinian people their land, dignity and right to freedom violated international law. His commitment to the Palestinian cause was not limited to speeches and slogans; Hezbollah under his leadership provided political, military and logistical support to its allies in the region, including in relation to the Gaza conflict. His death in an Israeli strike in September 2024, followed by the death of his longtime colleague Sayyed Hashem Safieddine in October 2024, marked a major turning point for Hezbollah.

According to supporters of Nasrallah and the “Axis of Resistance,” the path of resistance that he advocated continues despite the losses suffered by the movement and its allies. They maintain that the sacrifices made in support of Palestine will ultimately lead to victory and divine assistance.
