jararThe Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has strongly condemned the targeted killing in Peshawar of Malik Jrar Advocate (photographs attached), its Council member and a former vice-chairperson for HRCP’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter.
The Commission said in a statement on Friday: “HRCP condemns Malik Jrar’s killing in the strongest words and condoles with the family for their loss. Our heart goes out to his children in particular who he was going to drop at school when the armed men shot and killed him. Jrar was a respected lawyer, a non-violent person to the core and one who as a tireless activist held the notion of all human rights for all people very close to his heart. His murder in a targeted attack demonstrates that the raging epidemic of murderous mayhem remains completely unchallenged. As HRCP grieves the loss of a fearless human rights defender and a fine gentleman, it calls upon the government for the umpteenth time to take measures to guarantee safety of human rights defenders and indeed all citizens and hopes that effective steps will be taken to bring Jrar’s murderers to justice.”
