Pakistan Closes Borders With Afghanistan Indefinitely Amid Growing Tensions
Shiite News: Citing Express News, Pakistan has decided to close its borders with Afghanistan for an indefinite period. According to sources, rising bilateral tensions stem from the Taliban administration warning Afghan traders to reduce reliance on Pakistan and explore trade with other countries.
Officials told The Express Tribune that Islamabad has delivered a clear message to Kabul: unless firm and effective action is taken against the banned TTP and other terrorist groups, Pakistan will not reopen the borders for trade or routine movement.
Authorities stressed that this is not a routine administrative closure but a strategic policy shift. Afghan Taliban leaders have been informed that further negotiations are impossible without decisive anti-terror measures.
The border shutdown has persisted for over a month, leaving thousands of trucks and containers stranded on both sides. Presently, only humanitarian crossings are permitted — specifically for stranded persons and returning Afghan refugees.
A senior official noted that Pakistan values the protection of its citizens’ lives above trade or economic interests and will not compromise on national security.
