Government Conduct Has Undermined the Rule of Law: Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri
Shiite News: Speaking to the media outside Parliament House, Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri said that for several years, the people of Pakistan have been deeply disappointed by political injustices, the alleged violation of the public mandate, the removal of electoral symbols, deprivation of reserved seats, amendments affecting judicial independence, soaring inflation, economic difficulties, and insecurity. In such an atmosphere of frustration, the Supreme Court’s recent decision had raised hopes that the country might once again move toward justice, the rule of law, and national reconciliation.
The public had breathed a sigh of relief following the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the transfer of former Prime Minister Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital and the inclusion of his sister and physician, Dr. Faisal Sultan, on the medical board. However, the government’s conduct has once again undermined those hopes, he said. Taking Dr. Faisal Sultan to Shifa and Imran Khan’s sister to PIMS, while failing to properly take the relevant parties into confidence, amounted to undermining the spirit of the Supreme Court’s decision.
He said that such conduct was not merely a violation of a court order but also raised questions about the dignity of the judiciary, the rule of law, and public confidence in institutions. He described it as unfortunate that when judicial decisions are favorable, lectures are delivered on respecting courts and the rule of law, but when a decision goes against those in power, there is a tendency to disregard it. He added that it was a bitter reality that those with a history of attacking the Supreme Court were now seeking to make a judicial decision controversial.

Pakistan, he said, could no longer afford revenge, confrontation, or the degradation of state institutions. He urged the people not to lose hope but to remain courageous and determined. He said people should believe that Allah is watching everything and that no matter how powerful an oppressor may be, such power does not last forever. Insha’Allah, he said, the rule of law, justice, and truth will prevail, those responsible for wrongdoing will be held accountable, and the people of Pakistan will remain steadfast in defending their constitutional and democratic rights. He added that Imran Khan remains in the hearts of the people and that the resolve of those standing with him would not be shaken by pressure.
