Iran and Pakistan Aim for $10 Billion Trade Target, Call for Banking Reforms
Shiite News: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has said that achieving the $10 billion annual trade target between Iran and Pakistan requires urgent reforms in the banking and financial systems.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Qalibaf emphasized enhanced cooperation in economic, political, and security sectors, particularly to implement the agreements reached during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan.
Qalibaf expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during the recent 12-day Israeli aggression, saying that Pakistan stood with Iran in times of crisis.
He also addressed issues related to Iran’s nuclear program, stating that during indirect talks with the U.S. in Oman, Israel carried out attacks on Iran — later admitted by the American President.
Following the conflict, Iran held discussions with European countries under the snapback mechanism, and a related agreement was reached in Cairo with the International Atomic Energy Agency, though European parties failed to honor it at the New York session.
Qalibaf asserted that the U.S. opposes the progress of Islamic nations, but the Muslim world can resist American pressure through unity and self-reliance.
He also expressed Iran’s willingness to mediate and assist in resolving disputes between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that Iran and Pakistan have always stood by each other in difficult times and reiterated Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy and uranium enrichment.
