mwmHujjat ul Islam Maulana Sadiq Raza Taqvi, secretary general, Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Karachi chapter has demanded of government on Friday that strict security measures be adopted for Moharram to protect lives and properties of Shiites and other Pakistanis.

He was speaking at a meeting at Wahdat House, MWM Karachi office. He said that black-sheep within the security apparatus were involved in the targeted murders being perpetrated in Karachi.

“Terrorism, targeted murders and extortion have broken the backbone of Karachi that is economic hub of Pakistan,” he said.

Mr. Sadiq Taqvi said that on one hand, people are worried for these reasons and on the other government torment them by soaring prices of petroleum products, CNG and imposition of taxes.

“Ordinary people have to commit suicides and you see an increase in rate of suicides in Karachi and elsewhere in the country,” he said. He added that instead of sorting out problems, the ruling coalition parties were trying to hoodwink people so as to secure votes in forthcoming elections as well.

The MWM official demanded that security of mosques and Imam Bargahs and other places of mourning congregations of Shiites must be beefed up.

He announced that an “Azadari Cell” would be setup in Wahdat House. He said that Azadari Cell would monitor overall situation during Moharram including the majalis and juloos-e-aza (mourning congregations and processions).

Maulana Sadiq Raza Taqvi, Maulana Mohammad Hussain Karimi, Asif Safavi and Asghar Abbas Zaidi would monitor the situation at Wahdat House. Members of the MWM will remain present there round the clock.
