More than 490 candidates submitted nomination papers for 24 seats in GB
At least 491 candidates have submitted their nominations forms for contesting elections in different parts of the Gilgit-Baltistan region the in offices of Presiding Officers.
According reports, the highest number of contenders came from Gilgit disrict where at least 105 hopeful submitted their documents to the presiding officers for scrutiny. The second highest number of contestants was in Skardu, where more than 105 contenders submitted their documents for the six GBLA seats. A total of 69 candidates submitted documents in Hunza-Nagar, 66 in Ghizar, 56 in Astore, 55 in Diamer, while 32 candidates submitted their documents in Ghanche district. The candidates included leaders of PPP, PMLN, PTI, APML, MWM, Islami Tehreek, BNF, AWP, KNM, as well as many independent candidates hoping to contest the elections on their own.
Almost a dozen female contenders also submitted their documents, including two women from Astore district.
The Election Commissioner’s office will scrutinize the documents of the candidates to filter out those who do not qualify for the elections under the rules. These, reportedly, will include people who are bank defaulters.
