FIRs on mourners, HR Ministry seeks response from provincial chief secretaries on MWM’s complaint

Shiite News: The Ministry of Human Rights, Government of Pakistan has written to the chief secretaries of KPK and Punjab, seeking their response, expressing outrage over the registration of FIRs against worshipers for in Muharram 2022.

The Federal Ministry of Human Rights cited the letter of Allama Maqsood Ali Domki, the central leader of Majlis-e-Wahdat Muslimeen Pakistan and Chairman of the Mourning Council, and dozens of FIRs against Shia Muslims in Punjab and KPK.

The Ministry of Human Rights has said in its letter that Article 20 of the Constitution of Pakistan gives complete freedom to the citizens to practice their religion.

Whereas Article 25 of the Constitution mandates the observance of the fundamental rights of all citizens of Pakistan.

The Ministry of Human Rights has taken strict notice of the cases on mourning gatherings and has called for an immediate report, stressing the protection of religious freedom and religious rights as per the national and international treaties and laws for all components of society.

Meanwhile, the central leader of Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen Pakistan, Allama Maqsood Ali Domki, while welcoming this post on behalf of the Ministry of Human Rights, said that registering FIRs by declaring worship as a crime is a shameful act, which violates the Constitution and fundamental rights.

It is a serious violation of human rights. Punjab and KPK government and administration should withdraw these cases and take action against the police officers who registered cases against innocent mourners.

He said that the district administration has set a shameful example by registering 18 cases against mourners in Haripur district alone.
