Sindh-wide crackdown on Deobandi seminaries for promoting violent extremism

25 February, 2015 10:18

Since February 22, reports from Sindh province of Pakistan began saying that Deobandi seminaries promoting violent extremism, hatred among people and fanaticism, are being closed down. Senior Superintendent of Police District Badin said that 17 religious seminaries were sealed-off after police closed them.

Tando Mohammad Khan Police said next day that two seminaries were sealed-off. Tando Allah Yar Police reported on February 24 that 3 religious seminaries under the influence of proscribed ASWJ were sealed-off.

As a matter of fact, this eye-wash type action by police had to be taken to satisfy the anti-terrorists people of Pakistan and in particular the Shia Muslims who carried out a Long March and staged sit-in to express solidarity with the heirs of Shia martyrs of Shikarpur who were massacred during Friday prayer by Deobandi suicide bombing.

The police said that they took action against unregistered religious seminaries. But, police and intelligence agencies know better that registered Deobandi seminaries sheltered Taliban and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (ASWJ) who perpetrated major terrorist attacks in all over Pakistan.

Shia Muslims have demanded that action be taken against all the seminaries because takfiri DAISH (ISIL) terrorists have been captured from Shikarpur too. Aurangzeb Farooqi was in Shikarpur when Deobandi suicide bomber detonated during Karbala Moalla Mosque and Imam Bargah. Now Farooqi is building a house, seminary and hospital in Tando Allah Yar. So, police and rangers need to seal-off proscribed ASWJ’s Tando Allah Yar’s seminary and Farooqi should not be allowed to deceive people in the name of seminary and hospital.
