Shia party MWM backs Sunni party in bye-election to Punjab Provincial Assembly
Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen has announced its support to the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT)’s electoral candidate to contest the bye-election to Punjab’s Provincial Assembly, from the constituency PP-48 Bhakkar district.
Sunni party PAT’s leaders Basharat Jaspal and Raja Zahid met Nasir Abbas Shirazi, secretary political affairs of the MWM, at the political secretariat in Lahore. Asad Abbas of the MWM Punjab chapter was also present.
They sought support from the leading Shia party MWM and finally they agreed that PAT’s Nazar Khuhawar would be main candidate and MWM’s Ahsanullah Khan Baloch would be a covering candidate. Under the arrangement agreed by the two parties, common course of action would be devised and the candidates would be considered joint candidates and Mr. Nazar would be called joint candidate of the PAT-MWM.
As per tradition of Pakistani electoral politics, covering candidate is fielded keeping in view the disqualification of the actual candidate by the relevant authorities.
Sunni leader Allama Tahir ul Qadri called Allama Nasir Abbas Jafari of the MWM and thanked him over the MWM’s decision to back his PAT’s candidate.
