Tense uncertainty has gripped the entire region as India’s ruling party revoked the special constitutional status of occupied Kashmir through a rushed presidential order today.
Most importantly, India had already imposed an indefinite security lockdown and put elected Kashmiri representatives under house arrest.

It allowed people from the rest of India the right to acquire property in occupied Kashmir and settle there permanently.

Due to that, Kashmiris fear this will lead to a demographic transformation of region from majority Muslim to majority Hindu.

Now, India’s parliament is debating the move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to weaken the special rights of residents in Kashmir

However, India has moved 8,000 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from different parts of the country to IoK.

Furthermore, India also placed Indian army and air force on high alert.

Moreover, Home Minister Amit Shah also moved a bill to bifurcate the state into two union territories. Notably, Jammu Kashmir is one territory and Himalayan Ladakh region as the other.

His statement said that “Jammu and Kashmir will be a union territory with legislature while Ladakh will be a union territory without legislature”.

Chaos in the house

Meanwhile, Chaos erupted in the upper house of the Indian parliament as opposition lawmakers shouted slogans.

They also started protesting after Home Minister Amit Shah urged members to discuss the legislation.

Shah, who is also the president of India’s ruling BJP, proposed that all regulation under Article 370 will not be applicable after a presidential nod.
