Attack on Popular Mobilization Forces Facilities Is an Attack on Iraq’s Sovereignty, Says Former Iraqi Prime Minister

Shiite News: Former Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, head of the Alliance for Reconstruction and Development, strongly condemned what the article describes as Saudi-U.S. attacks targeting facilities of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as Hashd al-Shaabi. He said the attacks constitute a direct assault on Iraq’s sovereignty.

Al-Sudani stated that the attack represents a clear violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, a dangerous blow to the principles of Islamic solidarity, and a breach of international law as well as the United Nations Charter. He added that Iraq has consistently maintained, as official government policy, that it will not allow its territory to be used for attacks against any neighboring country.

He questioned the timing of the reported attack, saying it raises serious concerns because the Iraqi government had already established investigative committees to examine allegations of drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities. According to Al-Sudani, this demonstrated Iraq’s commitment to resolving disputes through legal and diplomatic channels rather than escalating military tensions. He claimed that Saudi Arabia nevertheless carried out the attack during this period.

Al-Sudani emphasized that Iraq reserves all legal rights under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter to defend its sovereignty, territory, and people. He said any attempt to undermine Iraq’s peace and stability is unacceptable and cannot be ignored.
