Shia Ulema Council Rejects Restrictions on Azadari, Announces Protest on August 2

Shiite News: The Shia Ulema Council Pakistan (SUC) has rejected what it described as unjustified restrictions on Azadari (mourning ceremonies) and the inclusion of mourners in the Fourth Schedule without valid grounds. The announcement was made during a press conference held under the banner of “Protection of Azadari.”

During the press conference, the organization presented an 11-point Charter of Demands and announced nationwide protests to be held on August 2.

The following key demands and positions were presented:

• The organization rejected restrictions on Azadari and called for the immediate release of mourners who have been placed under detention.
• It alleged that the Fourth Schedule, originally established to monitor individuals considered security risks, is being misused to harass Azadari participants.
• It demanded an end to the requirement for surety bonds and affidavits for holding mourning gatherings and called for authorities to stop issuing threats of preventive detention.
• The organization claimed that followers of the school of thought associated with Pakistan’s founder are being treated unfairly, alleging that FIRs are registered when mourning gatherings are organized.
• It called for the construction of Shia mosques and Imambargahs in newly developed residential areas and housing societies.

The press conference was attended by Allama Ishtiaq Hussain Kazmi, Allama Syed Sajid Hussain Naqvi, Nayyar Abbas Kazmi, Mubashir Hussain Bhatta, Qasim Ali Qasmi, Hafiz Kazim Raza Naqvi, Sagheer Abbas Warraich, and other leaders.
