Prominent Shiite cleric arrested in Kuwait after criticizing government

Hojjat al-Eslam Sheikh Hussein al-Ma’tooq, a Kuwaiti member of the Ahlul Bayt World Assembly Supreme Council and Secretary General of Kuwait’s National Coalition was arrested following a complaint from Kuwait’s Interior Ministry.

Two weeks ago al-Ma’tooq also was banned to speak because of his critical stance against the torture and mental harassment of all who were charged for smuggling weapons and ammunition.

Now, by the claim of Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, al-Ma’tooq is facing a charge of disturbing public opinion and giving misinformation to the people.

Sheikh Ma’tooq is the fonder of Imam Hassan Seminary and the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in Kuwait.
