Five Iraqis killed in wave of violence

iraq_blastFive people have been killed in separate incidents in Iraq and at least seven others have been injured a day after a deadly bombing killed about 30 people north of Baghdad.

An Iraqi soldier was killed and three others were wounded on Saturday when a group of gunmen stormed a joint police and army security checkpoint in the area of Abu Ghraib in the west of the Iraqi capital, Shiite News Reported

The attack left a soldier dead and two other soldiers and one policeman injured, according to security sources.

A child was also killed in the village of al-Sous in the northern province of Kirkuk. The 10-year-old reportedly tampered with an explosive he found, which exploded and killed him on the spot.

In the northern province of Nineveh, three people were injured by an improvised explosive device in the provincial capital Mosul.

The incident occurred when the home-made bomb detonated near an Iraqi army patrol in the city’s eastern neighborhood of al-Tahreer and injured three civilians.

Also on Saturday, militants attacked a house east of Baqouba, the capital of the central province of Diyala. Two children died in the attack that occurred in the al-Wajihiya area in the al-Muqdadiya district.

Another civilian lost his life when a bomb attached to his car exploded in central Baghdad early in the day.
