hang deathAn Iraqi court on Tuesday issued death penalty verdicts against seven people for their involvement in killing 22 Shiite Iraqis in 2011 in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, a court official told Xinhua.

“The Criminal Court of Anbar on Tuesday sentenced seven people to death by hanging for their role in the September 2011 execution- style killing of 22 male bus passengers in al-Nakhib area in Anbar province,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

Gunmen stopped a bus travelling from Syria to Nakhib area on Sept. 12, 2011, and drove the bus several kilometers away with 22 male passengers on board. The 22 men were later found shot dead, while the other eight passengers, all of them women and children, were spared.

About one year after the attack, an Anbar court sentenced four defendants to death by hanging and two others to life in prison for involvement in the crime.
