Syed Nasrallah to Address Latest Developments Sunday Night

Hezbollah Secretary General Syed Hassan Nasrallah is to deliver a speech Sunday night at 08:30 Beirut time (1830 GMT) to discuss the latest developments gripping Lebanon. His speech will be broadcast on Al-Manar TV.

March 8 circles told daily An Nahar on Sunday that the speech will address Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt’s latest Â decision to side with Syria and the Resistance in the parliamentary consultations and negotiations with Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri to end the crisis.

In an interview with An Nahar daily Jumblatt said his decision to stand by Syria and Hezbollah in the upcoming parliamentary consultations is based on obvious national and regional factors. He said that the Lebanese will receive the Democratic Gathering’s answer during Monday’s consultations.

â€œIt is good to hold calm consultations, especially if we respect the constitutional game,â€ Jumblatt added.

Commenting on his recent meeting with Sayyed Nasrallah, Jumblatt said: â€œThe meeting was very excellent and he is the most aware of the dangerousness of the situation in the country.â€

Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan told Al-Manar TV on Sunday that â€œno one wants to isolate anyone,â€ but that the problem with Hariri is that â€œhe caused all the economic, political and financial problems in the country, which is why MP Michel Aoun said that he does not want him for as next PM.â€

â€œThe next cabinet will be a bridge to move from one phase to another.â€ He also said that efforts will be sought by March 8 to represent all Lebanese parties in the next cabinet.

This comes at the time reports had been circulating on whether the consultations would be held on Monday and Tuesday or not.

MTV reported Saturday evening that Lebanese speaker Nabih Berri called Lebanese president Michel Suleiman and asked him to reschedule Mondayâ€™s scheduled premiership consultations. Hours later, Berriâ€™s press office denied the MTV report, â€œSpeaker Berri did not ask for postponing the consultation and confirms that they will be held as scheduledâ€.

Al Hayat newspaper reported in its Sunday edition that Jumblatt is strongly in favor of postponing the consultations , while president Suleiman said he has no plans until now to reschedule them unless all parties agree. He reportedly said that â€œpostponing the premiership consultations cannot be justified.â€

Diplomatic sources revealed to Al-Mustaqbal daily that Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al Thani contacted Suleiman urging him to reschedule the consultations to â€œallow more room for reaching a settlementâ€.

Four Tripoli MPs, former PM Najib Miqati, Minister Mohammed Safadi, Ahmed Karami and Qassem Abdelaziz, met Sunday but didnâ€™t decide on a candidate for premiership. They concluded their meeting by saying that their contacts are ongoing to end the crisis, stressing that their meetings will remain open.
