S Arabia imposes travel ban on Al-Arifi
Saudi Arabia has banned controversial Mufti Muhammad Al-Arifi from travelling to Qatar due to his support of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, a report says.
Middle East Online website reported that Arifi, who is famous for his controversial fatwas (decrees), said on his twitter page that he was planning to visit the Qatari capital, Doha to attend a program on Thursday, but he was prevented from leaving Saudi Arabia.
Arifi has voiced his support for people demanding the return of the Egyptian overthrown president Mohamed Morsi to power.
The Mufti is under pressure by Saudi officials for his support of Morsi and Muslim Brotherhood.
Saudi Arabia, however, supports the ouster of Morsi by Egyptian army on July 3.
Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni political party, with many supporters in the Middle East, wanting to form government based on people’s vote.
But, Saudi Arabia is a monarchy, which is against the formation of the government by elections.
