4-parties alliance proposes 2 year extension in duration of military courts

Four-parties alliance comprising of the PMLQ, MWM, PAT and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) have presented 9 proposals for the conditional extension of 2 years in the term of military courts.

In this connection, a meeting was held in Lahore where former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Ilahi of the PMLQ, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Sahibzada Hamid Raza of the SIC and Nasir Shirazi of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and other office bearers attended.
After the meeting, they briefed the media on their proposed 9-points for extension in the duration of the military courts.
They proposed that definition of terrorism should be discussed in the Parliament and all should have identical definition and interpretation of terrorism. There must be a law that should stipulate it that no political party or member of any political party would be victimized under it.
They said that protest and the difference of opinion of the political parties against the bad governance, deteriorated law and order, price-hike, power outages, unemployment, extra-judicial and extra-constitutional measures of the government should not be deemed terrorism or anti-state activity.
The military courts trial, verdicts and appeals and judgments on appeals and its executions should be carried out in the shortest and fixed period.
The proposed Constitutional amendment should not violate or deny the right of freedom of expression or freedom of press.
The accused should have right to defend himself through lawyer of his choice.
High-profile cases such as suicide bombings or terrorist attacks on the shrines of Muslim saints, massacre of lawyers in Quetta, Alamdar Road Quetta Tragedy, Jamia Naeemia Tragedy, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park Lahore blast should be tried in the military courts as test cases.
They proposed that a parliamentary committee comprising all parliamentary parties should be formed for check and balance on the military courts.
