Restrictions on Religious Activities in Bahrain Are an Attack on Sharia: Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim

Shiite News: Leader of the Islamic Movement of Bahrain Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Ahmed Qassim has warned of the serious consequences of the new decisions of Bahrain’s Al Khalifa regime that restrict the implementation of Islamic Sharia rulings, and has demanded their immediate and clear withdrawal.

In his statement, he said that these decisions are not limited to regulating certain religious activities but make the performance of Sharia obligations conditional upon government approval, which amounts to an attack on the right of religion and its rulings.

According to the statement, for the performance of certain religious duties including preaching and speeches, an initial two-year permit has been made mandatory, after which a formal official permit must again be applied for to continue these activities. Ayatollah Isa Qassim said that this step is neither a distinction nor an act of recognizing individuals associated with these fields, but an attempt to consolidate the official authority to halt the performance of their duties after a fixed period.

Terming these decisions in clear contradiction with the right of Allah Almighty, the rulings of the religion of Islam, and the Holy Quran, he said that such measures affect the autonomy of religious activities and the Sharia role of scholars and religious seminaries, and demanded that if these decisions were made out of unawareness of their consequences, they be reviewed and immediately annulled.

Ayatollah Isa Qassim warned that insistence on implementing these decisions even after their reality and destructive effects have become clear will lead to dangerous consequences, and emphasized that this issue should be resolved in a manner that preserves the sanctity of Sharia rulings and does not allow the obligations ordained by Allah Almighty to be restricted.
