Attacks on Peaceful Nuclear Facilities Are a Violation of International Law: 12 Countries Including Pakistan
Shiite News: In the United Nations General Assembly, 12 countries including Iran, China, Russia, and Pakistan have issued a joint declaration, terming any attack or threat of attack on nuclear facilities used for peaceful purposes as contrary to international law and the United Nations Charter. This declaration was issued by Belarus, Burkina Faso, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Iran, Nicaragua, Niger, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Zimbabwe at the 81st meeting of the General Assembly’s First Committee.
Iran’s Ambassador and Chargé d’Affaires to the United Nations, Gholam Hossein Darzi, read out this eight-point declaration. The declaration stated that nuclear facilities dedicated to peaceful purposes under the International Atomic Energy Agency’s safeguards system should not, under any circumstances, be subjected to attack or threat of attack, while affirming the inalienable right of all countries to nuclear research, production, and use for peaceful purposes.
Referring to Security Council Resolution 487 adopted in 1981, the declaration stated that an attack on or threat to nuclear facilities is a violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and is also contrary to the objectives of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. According to the declaration, such attacks are a serious threat to nuclear safety and security and to the credibility of the Agency’s safeguards system.
Earlier, in his address to the General Assembly, Gholam Hossein Darzi said that no country can unilaterally rewrite the NPT, and Article IV of the treaty gives all member states the right to peaceful nuclear energy, including the full nuclear fuel cycle.

Gholam Hossein Darzi said that America and the usurping Israel armed with nuclear weapons imposed two aggressive wars against Iran in 2025 and 2026 and targeted peaceful nuclear facilities under the Agency’s supervision, in which thousands of people, including the martyred Leader, were martyred. He said that neither the Agency’s Board of Governors, nor the Director General, nor the Security Council condemned these attacks; rather, pressure is being placed on the affected country while the aggressor escapes accountability.
