Iran’s President Urges US to Honor Commitments Under Islamabad MoU

Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, held in Tehran on Monday.

Expressing appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive and mediatory efforts toward establishing peace and security in the region, the Iranian president voiced hope that continued political will and joint cooperation would help achieve the objectives set out in the Islamabad MoU.

Emphasizing the need for the United States to honor its commitments toward Iran on the basis of Iran’s legitimate rights and international law, Pezeshkian said Washington must revise its tone and approach in dealing with Tehran.

He warned that US’ reliance on “bullying and intimidation” would only complicate the process of implementing the MoU.

Pezeshkian also highlighted the Iranian nation’s resilience and endurance, attributing the country’s strength to national unity and cohesion. He stressed that the Iranian people would overcome any pressure or threat by relying on this solidarity.

The president further described the establishment of lasting peace and security in the region, along with interaction and synergy among Muslim countries, as essential. He said Iran is prepared to cooperate and engage with Islamic countries and neighboring states in economic, political and security fields.

Pezeshkian emphasized that unity and cohesion among Muslim countries constitute the most important deterrent against plots by the Israeli regime and the enemies of Islam.

“If this convergence is achieved, the enemies will not be able to advance their sinister objectives,” he said.

Recalling the unity, cohesion and coordination inside Iran in pursuit of regional peace and stability, the president expressed hope that Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts would help the region and the Muslim world achieve greater progress, dignity and prosperity.

For his part, Field Marshal Munir thanked Pezeshkian for his efforts to promote stability and calm in the region, stressing that diplomatic processes must be discussed and examined with utmost care in order to advance shared objectives and reach a comprehensive agreement.

The Pakistani army chief also expressed satisfaction with the growing bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan, saying the two countries’ deep historical, religious and cultural commonalities constitute a valuable asset for overcoming current complexities and charting a brighter future.

Referring to Pakistan’s successful mediation experience, Munir said Islamabad would firmly continue its role as a facilitator.

He expressed the belief that an end to the current crisis could mark “the beginning of a new chapter of comprehensive cooperation” aimed at reconstruction, regional development and the realization of collective security.
