Hezbollah takes Israeli targets under massive retaliatory rocket salvo

Hezbollah has announced taking multiple Israeli targets under a massive rocket salvo in response to Tel Aviv’s violations against Lebanese sovereignty.

On Wednesday, the Lebanese resistance movement announced launching its Operation Eaten Straw against the occupied territories.

It said the operation was carried out in retaliation against the violations that had affected dozens of Lebanese cities and towns, including the southern suburb of the capital Beirut.

The group said its fighters had launched rockets at illegal settlements near the Lebanese border that had previously been warned to evacuate.

The warning had been issued against settlements lying within five kilometers of the border, it noted.

It identified the targeted settlements as Kiryat Shmona and Nahariya.

Hezbollah also reported counterstrikes on Israeli military infrastructure in the northern areas of the occupied territories.

“The Islamic Resistance’s fighters targeted the Misgav base and the Yodifat military industries company, northeast of the occupied city of Haifa, with dozens of rockets.”

The rocket launches were described as the largest salvo fired by Hezbollah since the start of the latest Israeli offensive.

The name of the operation draws on a Qur’anic phrase, which refers to stalks or straw that have been eaten and shredded, leaving behind fragments. In its original Qur’anic context, the phrase evokes the image of a powerful invading force being reduced to broken pieces.

Earlier in the month, Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem commented on an earlier military response staged by the movement against the occupied territories, saying it had followed more than a year of restraint and reminding how the group had warned repeatedly about the limits to its capacity for self-restraint in the face of Israeli aggression.
At the time, Sheikh Qassem noted that “for a year and three months, the Israeli and American enemy has continued its aggression. We adhered to the ceasefire agreement of November 27, 2024, alongside the Lebanese state, but Israel did not adhere to a single clause.”

The day saw the Israeli regime and the movement conclude the agreement, with Tel Aviv pledging to cease its intensified deadly escalation towards Lebanon that had cost thousands of lives.
