British mom flees to Turkey after being forced to marry ISIL suitor
A British mom who joined the ISIL terrorist group in Syria last year has fled to Turkey after being forced to marry a Takfiri terrorist, a report says.
British newspaper The Daily Mail reported on Friday that Tareena Shakil and her toddler son escaped from “the clutches of ISIS (ISIL) and fled to Turkey after begging border guards not to shoot her.”
In November last year, the 25-year-old woman had gone to the Syrian city of Raqqa via Turkey to join ISIL after telling relatives she was going on holiday to Spain with her young son Zaheem.
UK police confirmed Shakil and her son were in custody of Turkish authorities.
“We are aware a missing British woman travelling from Syria has been detained by Turkish authorities for immigration matters,” a spokesman for West Midlands police told MailOnline.
The spokesman, speaking on the condition of anonymity, added the British officials are “working with the Turkish authorities to ensure her safe return the UK.”
A family friend of Shakil said that ISIL terrorists had tried “to force her to marry a man, and when she refused he attacked her.”
Shakil “decided she couldn’t take it anymore, broke into a property and stole her passport,” the friend said, adding, “The border guards didn’t fire for some reason – maybe because she was carrying her son. Her hands were hurt and her feet cut to ribbons climbing the fence.”
The British government says at least 600 British extremists have joined the ISIL terrorist group, which controls swathes of Iraq and Syria.
However, more than 250 of the militants have already returned to the UK and could pose a security threat to the country.
Fears are growing that thousands of Western militants trained and battle-hardened in Syria and Iraq may carry out terrorist attacks once they return home.
The Takfiri militants have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas in Syria and Iraq, including mass executions and beheading of people.
