IED blast averted in Rawalpindi near railway station where a contractor found an improvised explosive device.

The bomb disposal experts call it a mobile device.

Terrorists put the locally-made device, containing about 1kg of explosive material filled in a plastic bottle with a detonator.

It was lying adjacent to an under-construction building in the vicinity of Mithu Khan Ahata Saddar along Railway Road.

However, the building contractor spotted the IED and called the Rescue 15.

Meanwhile, police, bomb disposal experts, the CTD staff and special branch officials immediately reached the scene.

They swiftly cordoned off the area. Besides, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Imran Ahmar also visited the scene.

Moreover, the bomb disposal squad successfully defused the device and handed it over to the CTD for further investigations.

However, the CTD has not made any arrest on connection with the recovery of the IED.

According to police sources, the under-construction building belonged to one of the top investors in Pakistan.

Later, the security agencies cleared the area.

However, when contacted, the RPO didn’t reply to the call despite repeated attempts.
