Sunni scholars condemn what they describe as acts of barbarism and crimes committed by the ISIL Takfiri militants in Iraq and Syria, Press TV reports.

During a conference in Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, the scholars condemned the so- called caliphate by the ISIL in north of Iraq.

The participants strongly criticized the labeling of the terrorists as “Sunni extremists” and the so-called caliphate as “Islamic State.”

“A Sunni cannot be extremist, nor can an extremist be accepted as a Sunni. This so-called state is not an Islamic state. It’s a Takfiri state. Islam is under attack by Takfiris, who are backed by foreign and some regional countries which claim they are Muslim states.” Mohammad Penjwini from the Islamic Scholars Union in Kurdistan told the Press TV correspondent.
The scholars attending the conference also denounced the ISIL’s barbaric acts such as killing children and taking women as slaves.

The scholars warned that a massive campaign has been launched to tarnish the image of Islam and its genuine teachings.

“These groups are trying to contaminate our religion with their brand of forged Islam. We’re here to clarify to everyone that these people are terrorists and that Islam disowns them and their ideology. “Loqman Al-Jami’e, from Al-Shafi’i Organization for Islamic Law Studies told press TV.

The Sunni scholars also warned against attempts to create rifts among the ranks of Muslims and urged the need to foster unity in the face of Takfiri threats all across the region.

The Takfiri terrorists currently control parts of eastern Syria and Iraq’s northern and western regions. They have committed heinous crimes and threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Izadi Kurds, during their advances in Iraq.
