Sit in against enforced disappearance of Shia Muslims enters 8th day in Karachi

Sit in against enforced disappearance of Shia Muslims enters 8th day today on Sunday. The families of Shia missing persons continue their protest outside President Dr Arif Alvi’s house in Karachi.

 

Biased witch-hunt, enforced disappearance tantamount to economic genocide of peaceful Shia community .

 

Also noteworthy is the fact that the families’ members, including grandparents, minor children and babies, are sitting despite sweltering weather.

They register protest against enforced disappearance of innocent Shia Muslims.

The affected families demand immediate release of their bread-earners.

Also, they condemned what they said economic genocide of peaceful Shia community through biased witch-hunt.

Rashid Rizvi, leader of Shia Missing Persons Release Committee, Hassan Raza Sohail and Sagheer Abid lead the sit-in.

Sit in enjoys huge support

Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Shia Ulema Council and Tehreek Nifaz Fiqh Jafaria (TNFJ) also have assured their support for sit-in protesters.

Tanzeem Azadari, Markazi Tanzeen Aza, mourning organizations, religio-political leaders and eminent scholars also support the protest.

More than 66 Muslims go missing

At least 66 innocent Shia Muslim suffer under enforced disappearance. And 47 of them hail from Karachi.

The captors took away some of them as recently as two months ago. They  kept whereabouts of others unknown for the past five years.

He said the families also demand that the biased and rogue personnel responsible for enforced disappearance must be held accountable.

He said that Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Zaidi, had met the families of the ‘missing persons’ and had sought a list of the victims but so far, no concrete action has been taken.

The protesters and their supporters condemn the rulers’ callousness and inaction. They lamented that President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan keep ignoring their protest.

Shia community urges President and Prime Minister to meet the protesting families at the said sit-in forthwith. They asked them to meet their legitimate demands.
