Punjab Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada was among at least 10 people killed when suicide bombers attacked the political office of the retired colonel in his native village in Attock district. Around 40 people were also injured in the blast and they were taken to the Hazru Hospital where there treatment is in process. Shuja Khanzada was hearing the matters of masses at the time of the blast which was so severe that the sounds were heard several kilometers away. Police and Bomb disposable squad and Pakistan army’s quick reaction force reached the site and started collecting evidences. Two helicopters are also taking part in the search and rescue operation. The roof of the office caved in due to explosion entrapping several people, including the Home Minister, under the rubble. Reports told that several people are critically injured who are under treatment. Federal Interior minister Nisar Ali Khan has ordered to provide the best medical facilities to the wounded. Rescue workers took out six more bodies from the rubbles, raising the death toll to 10. DSP Huzro is also among the dead. In addition to this, a security person was also taken out from the rubbles in critical condition. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered to take measures against the architects of the blast.
According to other reports, the Home Minister of Punjab has been martyred in the suicide blast. Dr. Saeed Ilahi, adviser to the province’s chief minister, confirmed the death of ten people including the provincial home minister. DSP Huzro Syed Shaukat Shah is also among the dead and his body has been taken out from the rubbles. The suicide blast took place in the Shadi Khan village in Attock. The whole building was collapsed due to the blast. A jirga (open court) was underway at Khanzada’s political office and a large number of people were present when the suicide attackers detonated their explosives. Initially, the secretary of Shuja Khanzada, Malik Ansar informed about his injury. According to the rescue workers, 13 injured people have been taken out from the rubbles and have been shifted to the hospital. 6 dead bodies have also been taken out. A helicopter has also been sent to assist the rescue workers.
According to the ISPR, the quick reaction team of Pakistan Army has also reached the site of the blast that is equipped with ground radars, cutters and other necessary items. Chief Minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharif condemned the suicide attack and has ordered investigations. The federal Interior minister has provided a helicopter for the rescue activities and has also ordered provincial and federal departments and army and air force to take part in rescue activities. He also ordered that the critically wounded people be taken to Kaamra whereas lightly injured be taken to Islamabad. The hospitals of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are on High alert. Shuja Khanzada’s son Sohrab Khanzada tolad that the bomb blast took place when he went to the kitchen to bring tea. The building has completely demolished due to the attack. Intelligence agencies, in their reports, had mentioned the threat of attack on Shuja Khanzada.
