American Islamic Scholar Reflects on the True Message of Arbaeen: “Remembering Lady Zainab’s Role Is Essential Alongside the Pilgrimage of Imam Hussain”

Shiite News: Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Syed Mahboob Mehdi Abedi Najafi, head of the Al-Baqi Organization and a well-known Islamic scholar based in the United States, said in an exclusive interview with Hawza News in Najaf that the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) are a source of guidance for all humanity, with Imam Hussain (AS) holding a unique place among them.

He said Arbaeen is often understood simply as the pilgrimage to Imam Hussain (AS), but its true significance is much broader. According to him, Arbaeen represents the fulfillment of the promise made by Lady Zainab (SA) to Imam Zain al-Abidin (AS) that one day believers from around the world would gather to visit Imam Hussain.

Abedi Najafi added that the Arbaeen pilgrimage brings together people of every generation, ethnicity, and language, who demonstrate remarkable love, unity, and brotherhood. He praised the people of Iraq for opening their homes to pilgrims, saying that their shared devotion to Imam Hussain transforms millions of visitors into one family, reflecting the practical implementation of Islamic brotherhood and Qur’anic values.

Describing Arbaeen as the world’s largest annual human gathering, he criticized international media for giving little attention to the event despite its millions of participants. He argued that much smaller gatherings elsewhere often receive significantly greater coverage. He also praised Hawza News for highlighting the voices of communities that he believes are overlooked by mainstream international media.
