Leader’s top adviser: Iran needs no relations with US

A senior Iranian official says the Islamic Republic feels no need for relations with the United States as Iran is a powerful and independent country.

“We have no need for relations with America as the Iranian nation is independent, great and powerful,” said Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday.

Velayati added that Washington’s policies have been to the disadvantage of the Iranian nation for nearly 37 years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

“[Over the past four decades] the Americans have frozen Iranians’ assets, helped [former Iraqi dictator] Saddam Hussein during the imposed war [on Iran] and had a hand in every single plot against the Islamic Republic, so we do not need their help,” the Iranian official said.

Velayati, who is also the president of the Center for Strategic Research of Iran’s Expediency Council, said the United States has even targeted the countries which maintain very close ties with the Islamic Republic, including Syria.

The senior Iranian official stated that the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has banned negotiations with Washington due to its “destructive policies” toward Iran, the Muslim world and international developments.

Every act of aggression taking place in the world is traced back to the US, Velayati said.

On Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei said holding negotiations with the United States is banned as it has countless disadvantages and no benefits for Iran.

In a meeting with commanders and staff members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, the Leader also stressed that talks with the US will lead to Washington’s infiltration into the country.
