Relocation of demolished ancient mosques is unacceptable

kalmaThe municipal bloc of Al Wefaq National Islamic Society stated that the demolished mosques’ issue will not be closed until it is resolved by returning all the property. The Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) had documented this issue as a violation of religious rights, the authority then approved the report. Therefore, the issue is not supposed to be under dispute, the bloc said.

The regime’s demolishing of the mosques three years ago had brought wide anger and cut a deep wound in the history of this country.

Al Wefaq’s municipal bloc said in its statement, “The attempts to relocate the demolished historic mosques like the Ain-Rastan mosque and Barbaghi mosque, which was built more than 450 years ago, are illegal and unacceptable”. The statement added,” No one has the right to waive a single meter of the lands of these mosques”.

“The authority has committed a grave mistake by attacking and destroying these mosques. Yet, some odd and rejected voices are disputing the history of these ancient mosques to try and justify this serious violation”, the bloc added. The statement mentioned that the former administration of the Jaafari Endowments had met with the municipal representatives and assured them that the mosques will not be relocated from their original locations.
