Kumin kuaitKuwaiti Justice and Islamic Affairs Minister Nayef al-Ajmi aAjmiccused by a senior U.S. official of promoting jihad in Syria, has submitted his resignation days after receiving the backing of fellow cabinet members, a report said Friday.

The minister who strongly denied the U.S. accusations, said he had asked to resign for health reasons way before the accusations.

He said that the cabinet would consider his request on Sunday. The U.S. Treasury Undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, David Cohen, charged earlier this year that Ajmi “has a history of promoting jihad in Syria.”

Ajmi acknowledged he participated in fund-raising campaigns for Syria “for humanitarian purposes” and not for Syria’s al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front as alleged by Cohen.
