Top Military Aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi expressed the pleasure that terrorists’ control over residential areas has decreased, thanks to the Syrian army and popular forces’ recent major victories.

“Certain regions in Syria are controlled by the government and some other regions are witnessing clashes,” Rahim Safavi said, addressing a gathering in the Central city of Qom on Wednesday.

“Most areas controlled by the terrorists include plains and deserts and less residential regions,” he added.

The Syrian army and popular forces’ offensives on the gathering centers of militant groups in different parts of the country have claimed the lives of hundreds of terrorists and wounded many others in recent days.

In a recent development earlier this week, the Syrian army and air force killed 71 terrorists, including senior commanders, in intensified attacks on militants’ positions in Damascus and Homs provinces.

The Syrian air force destroyed the ISIL and the Al-Nusra Front terrorists’ military positions and gathering centers in the countryside of the city of Homs on Tuesday.

In Damascus province on the same day, the army units destroyed a tunnel of Jeish al-Islam in Jobar, killing all the militants inside it.
