Sheikh Ali al-Asadi Reveals Alleged US-Backed Group Formed for Targeted Killings in Iraq

Shiite News: Sheikh Ali al-Asadi, head of the Political Council of Iraq’s prominent resistance movement Harakat al-Nujaba, has alleged that the United States has formed a group of Iraqi mercenaries to carry out targeted killings in Iraq.

Al-Asadi said that the group’s activities are being closely monitored and alleged that certain security officials have also been involved in the purported US-backed plan to create unrest in the country.

In an exclusive interview with the Arab television channel Al Mayadeen, Sheikh Ali al-Asadi strongly criticized the Iraqi government’s decision to prevent Iranian aircraft from landing at Iraqi airports. He described the decision as tantamount to “submitting to US bullying and hegemonic pressure” and called on the decision-makers to immediately reconsider what he described as a shameful decision.

He warned that failure to reverse the decision could lead to public pressure and awareness campaigns calling for change in opposition to what he characterized as colonial pressure.

The head of Harakat al-Nujaba’s Political Council stressed that Iraq should be fully independent and sovereign in its political, security and economic decisions. He said that if Iraq is able to govern itself and prevent US intervention, there would be no need for armed resistance.

Al-Asadi further alleged that the United States had offered various projects and incentives to the resistance movement in exchange for laying down its arms. However, he said, Harakat al-Nujaba completely rejected what he described as the US offer.
